BioWare Confirms Mass Effect 3 "From Ashes" Launch Day DLC

Mass Effect 3: From AshesMass Effect 3, undoubtedly one of the biggest, most anticipated and most hyped games of 2012, is a mere two weeks away from launch and fans couldn't be more excited. Mass Effect 3 has players taking control of Commander Shepard once again as they fight against a seemingly insurmountable Reaper invasion on Earth. Shepard has to gather every ally he can from all across the galaxy in order to not only save Earth, but every other planet as well.

Now, everybody knows that there are certain pre-order bonuses you can get from dropping down $5 to reserve your copy of a game. Whether it be in-game content like armor, weapons, character skins or multiplayer maps, gamers love their pre-order swag. But one thing they love more is DLC. Now, single player, story-driven games like Mass Effect 3 usually don't do a whole lot in terms of DLC, though Mass Effect is the stand-out exception.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 both had a slew of DLC that added new missions, characters and costumes to the games, allowing players to explore even more of the game's universe and characters. Mass Effect 3 doesn't plan on being any different and BioWare, the company behind the games, has already officially announced the very first DLC for the game which will launch simultaneously with the game's release on March 6.

The DLC is known as "From Ashes" and was leaked onto the Xbox Live Marketplace a few days ago where it was available, albeit briefly, for 800 Microsoft Points. The DLC came with the following description, "Unearth lost secrets from the past and recruit the Prothean squad member in Mass Effect 3: From Ashes." That's right, the main baddies from Mass Effect 2 were the Protheans (spoiler alert!) and now you actually get to have one in your squad, much like Legion, your Geth squad member in Mass Effect 2.

The DLC, which will cost you 800 Microsoft Points and give you a new mission and squad member, was confirmed by BioWare's Michael Gamble on the company's message boards. In his post Gamble stated, "We're happy to confirm that Mass Effect 3: From Ashes DLC will be available at launch for all platforms. For those of you who have purchased the N7 Collector's Edition (including the PC Digital Delux Edition) you will get this content at no extra charge. We'll have a lot more details for you later this week! Stay tuned!"

The fact that owners of the Collector's Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition get this content free is the cherry on top. If there is one thing that compliments having the Collector's Edition of the game, it's getting free DLC when everyone else has to pay for it.

Mass Effect 3 launches on March 6, 2012 and integrates a new multiplayer system, new gameplay elements and even Kinect voice commands that work surprisingly well. If you haven't pre-ordered your copy yet, then you better do it now, though I don't think you'll have any luck finding one.
