Some new news about Sony has just hit the internet and, thankfully, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the PSN outage that devastated the console just a few short months ago. No, this announcement has to do with the newest firmware update for Sony's gaming console, the PlayStation 3, and all the nifty little things it has added to make your PlayStation experience that much more enjoyable.
Firmware 3.70 was released Tuesday night by Sony, and it added and fixed a lot of things that should please and entertain most users of the console. The update, which is required and will be automatically updated the next time you log onto your system, adds multiple new things, including a section to the XrossMediaBar and a host of new features for subscribers of PlayStation Plus.
Now, I'm not a PS3 owner, I like to rock the Xbox 360 myself, but that doesn't mean I am a stranger to system updates. If you are like me (and most other gamers I would imagine), then you probably completely and utterly despise system updates for the sole fact that sometimes they can take an egregiously long time to download. It comes as no surprise to any gamer that watching a download bar is about as exciting as watching Bob Ross paint yet another mountain landscape.
If you want the firmware update as soon as possible, and you don't want to rely on shady PS3/Internet service to download it, then there is another option. You can download Firmware 3.70 directly to your computer and then save it on a USB drive and put the update on your PlayStation 3, drastically reducing your download times. Here's what ya gotta do:
Step 1: Download Firmware 3.70 from Sony and save it directly to your desktop.
Step 2: Put the .pup file into a folder and name it "Update".
Step 3: Put the "Update" folder into another folder and name it "PS3".
Step 4: Put the "PS3" folder onto the flash drive.
Step 5: Plug the flash drive into your PS3.
Step 6: Go to "Settings" on your PS3 and select "System Update".
Step 7: When asked, select "Update via Storage Media".
Step 8: Begin the update.
Step 9: Complete the update.
Step 10: Enjoy.
That's all there is to it. Follow these steps and you will be enjoying the PlayStation 3's Firmware 3.70 update in no time. If you want to know a little more about what exactly the update does, head on over to IGN and catch the PS3 Firmware 3.70 video detailing everything new that comes with the update.
